What to do when trapped in a falling elevator

We all use elevators.  Have you ever stopped for a moment and wondered:

1. What will I do if an elevator starts to fall
2. What are the chance of it happening

The prospect of being stuck in a malfunctioning elevator with the chance of it to crash, are something perfectly real, yet highly unlikely. Yet there are many misconceptions about how to survive such an occurrence.

We all have heard the advice about jumping before the impact, or standing with bent knees to “absorb” the moment of impact.
