There is a very easy trick of figuring out the exact North by using the sun. It resembles a sun dial, but it is based on a slightly different principle. It’s true you will use the shadows to determine the North, but with a slight modification, you will find this method extremely simple and easy.

The items you need are also simple and can be found anywhere, or substituted with items found in nature. You don’t need anything special for this to work.

The only requirement is that the sun should cast shadows on the ground for a while. About 1 hour should be enough to help you determine the true North.
